Our catechetical leaders meeting this month was an "Escape Room" experience. An Escape Room is a physical adventure game in which players solve a series puzzles and riddles using clues, hints and strategy to learn your curriculum objectives. The developer of this activity Cheryl Smith, St. John the Evangelist, New Hartford focused her "escape room" on breaking open the Exodus story with 8th graders. Cheryl shared with those gathered some great ideas about how to expand the lesson as well as some other possible application. This is an activity that could be developed for just about any age group. The diocesan resource website RCfaithquest gives you access to the planning sheet for this activity. I am happy to share this "Escape Room" activity with anyone who would like to better understand the activity so as to use the material. And yes Cheryl left the props, clues and puzzles with me to share with you.
